
Mark HernySenior Drill Instructor
mherny@nationalhonorguardacademy.comInstructor Herny is the Senior Drill Instructor for the National Honor Guard Academy. Mark, his wife, two daughters and one son live in Trinity, Florida.
He is a Driver-Operator for Clearwater Fire and Rescue where he has worked since 2003. Mark has been very involved with his department’s Honor Guard for over three years and currently serves as B-Shift Team Leader. He has assisted with the command and coordination of the National Fallen Firefighter Memorial Weekend for the past several years, and oversees the training of the Clearwater Honor Guard.
Mark became interested in drill and ceremony during his time in NJROTC. He was active for four years, three of which were spent with the Color Guard Team. Additionally, Mark was the Commander of this competitive team for one year. Following high school, Mark joined the United States Marine Corps and spent five of his six years enlistment on the Color Guard. He is also an Adjunct Instructor for his department and assists with their Recruit Training Program.
Mark makes every class his own takes their progress quite personal. In the words of one of his former students, “Pride is his reward.”
