Instructor McLoughlin serves as the Academy’s Academic Officer. He is married with three children. Jim works as a Fire Lieutenant with the City of Hartford, Connecticut, and has been in the Fire Service since 1981.
He is an adjunct instructor for the Connecticut Fire Academy teaching classes in FD Communications (I-Call & I-Tac), Maritime Operations, Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations and Basic Recruit Training. In 2001, Jim founded the Hartford Fire Department Honor Guard Society, and shortly after that, the Connecticut Statewide Honor Guard. The Statewide Honor Guard recently had the honor of participating in the Connecticut Gubernatorial Inauguration and presented colors at the Congressional Fire Services Institute Dinner in our nation’s capitol.
He is also the Founder and Board Chairman of the National Honor Guard Commanders Association. Jim is a planning team member for the Connecticut State Firefighter Memorial and a member of the Honor Guard Command Staff for the National Fallen Firefighter Memorial Weekend.
Jim is committed to the development of Honor Guards from all disciplines and encourages the team members to remember, “It’s not about YOU!”
