Instructor McNamara was born and raised in Massachusetts but now serves as a Patrol Officer for the Roanoke County Police Department.

Jason and his wife live in Roanoke, Virginia, and when not protecting the citizens of Roanoke County, he enjoys golf, softball and good old fashioned PT. He stays very busy at work with assignments including General Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Entry Team member of SWAT and of course the department’s Honor Guard.

He is an Academy graduate, but gained his early drill experience in the Air Force. Jason served with the Air Force Security Police from 1988-98 and was stationed in New York, Guam and Maryland. Jason was selected by the Chief of Presidential Aircraft Security, and the White House, for assignment as an Aircraft Security NCO in 1994. He served in this capacity for four years and his duties included traveling aboard Air Force One and Air Force Two (Vice-Presidential aircraft). He also provided security for, and traveled with, members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Jason believes strongly in discipline, honesty and integrity. It is said that you may forget a joke someone told you last week, but you will forever remember the person that lied to you. This is one of the driving forces in Jason’s strong moral character. He takes the training and instructing of others very serious and appreciates the fact that you never stop learning.

Jason’s personal approach is embraced by the students and his NHGA family.
