This
course, affectionately known as our “honor guard boot camp” is designed
to provide fire service and public safety organizations the basics to
develop your honor guard and color guard units.
A balance of
informative classroom presentations and hands-on repetition of
practical skills highlight the intense training format.
Our Honor Guard Boot Camp provides:
- Basic guidance for the standardization of training methods;
- Instruction in proper drill movement and techniques;
- Leadership enhancement;
- Team confidence building.
The course covers the following topics:
- Basic drill and ceremonial movements;
- Church and casket protocol;
- Developing department SOPs for honor guards and color guards;
- Public Safety Officer benefits;
- Flag etiquette;
- Honor guard commander leadership training;
- Various types of funeral services;
- Honor guard and color guard history and traditions.
Mock Funeral
The
academy culminates with a complete mock funeral to include planning and
conducting events at a funeral home, church and cemetery.
Evaluation
Students are evaluated on their command and coordination as well as their drill and ceremonial knowledge and execution.
Graduation
A
formal graduation ceremony marks the end of the week and the
rededication of the student’s commitment to Honor, Dignity and Respect.
Based
on the daily schedule and extended hours of this course, students are
encouraged to take advantage of local/onsite lodging. This will also
provide increased opportunity for ceremonial practice and professional
networking.
